The Pines Country Club, northwest of Valley, is situated on level terrain. Strategically placed traps guard the greens and sit in several fairways. The rough is seeded bluegrass, cut slightly longer than the fairways. The fairways are lined with trees. The large undulating greens, often cut short and quick, are the most challenging aspect of the course. The long par 5 thirteenth is one of the most difficult holes. It has a lateral water hazard and two small ponds straddling its fairway, forcing you to think before hitting your tee shot.
   The Pines features a putting green, chipping green, practice bunker, and driving range to hone your skills. And to learn the skills of golf, the four PGA pros are more than happy to give lessons. Also, rental golf carts, clubs, and pull carts are available. The clubhouse features a locker room, showers, snack bar, bar, meeting room, and a pro shop. The Pines is a member of the Nebraska Golf Association, and accepts both Visa and Mastercard. But, as with most courses in the United States the staff asks that no metal spikes are used on the course.
